Welcome to my Showcase!

This section of my portfolio is dedicated to showing off some artifacts and activities that I have done in the classroom during my teaching career. All of them provided valuable insights to have me become the teacher I am today. The two main themes that I am going to explore in this showcase are creation and leadership.

Creation

For the creation section of this showcase, I want to display artifacts that display my creativity. I believe that especially in teaching it is essential to always maintain a creative mind. We need to be willing to experiment with new things in the classroom and in life.

Leadership

For the Leadership section of the showcase the artifacts will allow readers to get a better understanding of who I am as a leader. I also want them to see that I take culture in the classroom very seriously. By building a strong classroom culture we can facilitate a healthier learning environment for growing leaders.

Cooking with TPACK

This project allowed me to do something that many teachers are very familiar with, improvisation. This video linked below is a demonstration of how teachers are given a task and need to be creative to make it a reality. I really enjoyed the opportunity to get uncomfortable try to solve a difficult task. I believe that this artifact demonstrates my ability to make do with what I have and turn it into a learning opportunity.

Gamification in Social Studies PD

This PD I created focuses on the potential benefits of bringing video games into the classroom. I craft this using a social studies lens using research from many different authors. The goal is to help increase engagement and interest in certain topics. It also provides interesting insights into the possible future of social studies education. I believe that this artifact best exemplifies my willingness to experiment with new and innovative tactics to help students learn.

Action Research Plan 822

In this work, I constructed an Action Research plan to try to increase student engagement. I specifically focused on using the program, FLIP, as a means of doing this. I wanted to better understand if this was an effective means of increasing student engagement in the classroom over time. This artifact allows me to demonstrate my desire to incorporate student data into my practice. I also allow students to have a say in their own classroom based on the data.

Iterative Creation Experience 811

This activity was a reflection on iterations that I made to my Innovative Learning plan. The discussion revolves around taking feedback from fellow students to help make my lesson that much stronger. I love applying the feedback of classmates to make my own work better since they always see things that I don't. This artifact demonstrates my willingness to not only create things, but adjust them as well. I acknowledge that nothing is every truly perfect and always has room for improvement.

Theory of Learning

This project allowed me to take many different psychological theories and combine them. It gave me the ability to synthesize my personal beliefs and describe how I best envision the learning process. It gives a great insight into how I try to set up a classroom and the reasoning behind my madness. I specifically focus on incorporating constructionist and critical theories into my classroom in order to help build off of student experiences. I believe that this artifact best allows me to show how I view students when they enter my classroom.

Global Vision Statement

This project allowed me a platform to express where I want to see educational focus shift. I also lay out some ways to help achieve these educational goals. The focus is on building up the skills of students in the classroom. I believe that building up certain skills should be the main focus of the classroom to better prepare students for the real world. This artifact really showed how as a leader I am very willing to help push for change if it can benefit student experiences.

Innovative Learning Plan- Google Earth

This was an overarching project for my CEP 811 class. The focus was to use an innovative technology and use it to create a lesson plan with students. I used this project to get my students to create Google Earth tours to learn a bit about themselves, and then create tours to revolve around the content that we were going over at the time. I believe that this artifact best displays my ability to keep information compact and concise in order to help achieve a learning goal.

PBIS Survey 822

This is a survey that I created in one of my courses that tries to understand PBIS. Specifically, I want to understand the impact that teachers believe it has. This was a part of a research based class that showed us how to conduct multiple types of educational research. This artifact demonstrates my desire to lead based on the input of others rather than just make sweeping changes. The school is a community and needs to be treated as such to foster a healthy community.
