CEP 811 Iterative Creation Experience

I have been spending time over the past few days editing my Innovative Learning Plan for this class and I can say that I really did appreciate all of the feedback that I received. It made me think about a lot of things that I didn't while I was going through this the first time. Personally, I believe that the added context will make my learning experience flow better and make more sense.

My specific learning experience that I am conducting is a small project with my students that allows them to play around with Google Earth. My students will be using Google Earth to construct a timeline to highlight some special places in their lives. I am using this so that the students can build more community in the classroom and they also can learn more about how to contextualize events in a timeline. I will be using this program in a lesson before introducing this to the students so that they will have at least seen it before I introduce the project. They also will get to see my own tour so that they have an example to build off of. After they create their tour, they will have the ability to present to the class or me and then reflect on their experiences by creating a video using the program Flipgrid.

As I previously said, I really appreciated the feedback that I recieved and I took a lot of that into account while I was making my edits. What I really enjoyed was looking at the questions and comments that people left me that made me think about things that I hadn't thought of before. For example, one person asked me under the section about intersectionality about including the stories and how it might difficult for some students to present in class. I adjusted that by making other options for students when it comes to presenting. This includes only presenting the project to me, or recording it instead of presenting to the class. I also will make sure to emphasize that the experiences that they use should be happy in order to avoid traumatic stories triggering the students. This made me think much deeper about the the topic of intersectionality especially. As far as changes that helped implement UDL, I made an effort to be more clear in what I specifically want the students to be doing.

Some changes that I made in my edits included what I previously stated above, as well as adding a more explicit breakdown as to what I want the students to do each day that we are working on this project. I also made sure to include how I was going to break down the scoring for this project so that students had as much transparency as possible. One thing that I saw that was suggested that I did not change was the idea of bringing in alternate ways of doing the project. I want the students to focus on a bit of self reflection when they are constructing this assignment. I believe that it is important for the story they are telling to be their own. I did make changes based on how they could present in order to accommodate comfort levels.

Overall, I really did enjoy creating this experience and I believe that when I implement this into my classroom, this will not only help my students contextualize the content, but they will also be able to build our classroom community. For me, I want to make sure that every so often we take that time to address building the classroom community because I am a firm believer that no learning can happen in the classroom if there is no supportive environment in the classroom.
