A Brief Overview of My MAET Experience
This page is dedicated to showing some of the classes that I took during my MAET (Master of Arts in Educational Technology) program. Aside from credits gained from my student teaching year in the 2020-2021 school year, all credits were completed in during the Fall 2023, Spring 2024, and Summer 2024 semesters.
CEP 822: Approaches to Educational Research
Dr. Michael Lachney
Fall 2023
This class focused on developing our abilities to understand and conduct different types of research. In the class, we not only analyzed data, we created our own as well. Some of those projects include creating interviews, action research projects, and our own surveys to use in the classroom. Having this foundation of what educational research looks like allows me to now look at data with a more critical eye, as well as conduct research on my own to create a better classroom experience.
CEP 810: Teaching for Understanding with Technology
Nicole Zumpano
Spring 2024
In this class we explored basic understandings of how learning and understanding happen. We took these concepts and applied them to the TPACK frame work so that we were creating experiences that would be meaningful to students. We also did some explorations with creating Professional Learning Network's and understanding the importance of understanding what resources we use to help build up our practice. This class gave me a great opportunity to better explore how important it is to keep the student experience in perspective when creating activities.
CEP 812: Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice
Nicole Zumpano
Summer 2024
The main focus of this class is to see how we can use technology to answer issues that occur in teaching. Through this class we explored a number of different technologies that we could use to help answer these types of questions. We also analyzed research that gave us the opportunity to look at how other people have tackled similar issues in the past. This class prepared me to look at problem-solving in a number of different ways compared to when I began.
CEP 807: Capstone Seminar
Matthew Koehler & Megan Harris
Summer 2024
The Capstone class allowed me to create a website to summarize my entire experience in the MAET program. It allowed me to be challenged in website and content creation, while also taking style and my own personal flair into account. Over the course of the semester I was able to create this fully functioning website that gave me a great resource to use for job searches or helping increase my professional footprint.
CEP 811: Adapting Innovative Technologies to Education
Colin Gallagher
Fall 2023
The purpose of this class was to use explore different types of technology that could be used in our classrooms. We also focused on looking at ourselves as makers and creators of experiences for our students. This creative lens allowed me to create rich activities that increased student engagement. We also discussed the importance of iteration and how failure is just part of the learning process. This class allowed me to really challenge myself as a creator and push my abilities.
CEP 815: Technology and Leadership
Kyle Shack
Spring 2024
This class focused on looking at leadership qualities. It also gave us many opportunities to consider what kind of leaders we want to be in our schools. I personally found this class to be fascinating because it allowed me to look at those in leadership roles around me and consider what I like, and don't like in leadership styles. It also gave us the opportunity to put some of those practices into action as we created professional developments and discovered where our leadership style best fits.
CEP 800: Psychology of Learning in Schools and Other Settings
Ron Houtman & Cary Roseth
Summer 2024
This class allowed me to explore the many different settings and psychological theories of learning. Each week we explored a new theory that each looked at learning differently. Many of them though were scaffolded in a way that allowed the theories to build off of each other. We used all of this information to create our own vision for learning that combines aspects of different theories to create our own idea of how people learn.
Student Teaching Credits
Fall 2020 and Spring 2021
The classes that I took during my student teaching year included TE 802, 803, and 804. These classes represented my experience I gained before becoming a teacher full time. The classwork mostly revolved around experiences that we were having in the classroom. Due to the pandemic, most of my experience gained here was online through teaching classes through Zoom and attending classes through Zoom. Though this experience was very atypical, it was very memorable.
